Manx Music and Dance Summer Season Begins

Whether you're a local or a visitor to the Island, pop down to the Villa Marina Arcade in Douglas on a Thursday evening this summer, and you will be in for a treat! The IOM Arts Council, in collaboration with Culture Vannin, has organised a series of free Manx music and dance concerts beginning this week and running throughout July.

The series starts at 8pm on Thursday 30th June with a concert from acapella Gaelic choir Caarjyn Cooidjagh and a display of Manx dances from Perree Bane. Thursday 7th July will feature Rachel Hair's talented young harpers, Claasagh, and they will share the evening with Manx Gaelic songs from choir Cliogaree Twoaie. Linking in with Yn Chruinnaght Celtic festival on the 14th July, singer-songwriter Matt Creer will share the bill with Rushen Silver Band who will perform a programme of Manx and Celtic music. Folk singing favourites Shoh Slaynt host the evening on the 21st July, and to finish the season on the 28th, vocal duo Marlene Hendy and Dilys Sowrey will perform songs from their new album "Fy Yerrey" followed by entertainment from the Manx Folk Dance Society.
