The Isle of Man Arts Council are proud to announce the return of Manchester’s world famous Hallé, who will perform at the Villa Marina on Saturday 20th June 2020.

After their successful sell-out performance in 2017, the Hallé return with Music Director and Conductor Sir Mark Elder and guest soloist Sheku Kanneh-Mason.

With a programme including Wagner, Beethoven and Weber, the evening also includes Sheku Kanneh-Mason performing Elgar’s monumental Cello Concerto, a piece that has seen Kanneh-Mason reach number one in the classical charts and break into the mainstream charts. This success along with his performance at the Royal Wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the mesmerising performances with his siblings as the Kanneh-Mason Trio has seen Sheku rise as a star in the classical world.

The Saturday evening concert forms part of a weekend of entertainment and education by the Isle of Man Arts Council. Friday night will play host to the Arts Council’s popular annual lecture, which sold out in 48hrs in 2019. The guest for 2020 is renowned Elgar expert Arthur Reynolds, who will speak on the composer’s life and act as a fantastic introduction to the main concert. Sunday afternoon opens the Royal Hall to the Hallé Come and Play scheme, allowing school children of all ages to take part in a concert with the famous orchestra.

Of the weekend, Chairman of the Isle of Man Arts Council Mrs Marlene Maska MLC has said “We are delighted to welcome the Hallé to the Isle of Man once again, and in particular we extend a warm welcome to Sir Mark Elder and to Sheku Kanneh-Mason.  This is a unique opportunity to hear some of the world’s greatest classical music played by classical music’s newest superstar and one of the finest orchestras in the world.  We are also looking forward to inviting our own young musicians to the “Come & Play” afternoon, which we hope will give them lifelong memories and inspire a generation”

Tickets for the Saturday concert will go on sale on Thursday 13th February at 12pm. More information about tickets for the Annual Lecture and Come and Play will be released via the Isle of Man Arts Council website. We would like to thank the Isle of Man Steam Packet for their support with this event.
