Last month The Hub's Creative Writers launched 'Wildfire', the creative writing group's first ever anthology. The anthology, edited by Janet Lees, is made up of just a small fraction of the incredible poetry and prose produced by the group over the past year.
The creative writing group was established in November 2014 as one of The Hub's community-based, creativity projects and has proved very successful with the group's numbers constantly increasing. The sessions, held every other Thursday, are led by local poet Janet Lees who has inspired the group to explore their writing talents with new skills and techniques every week. The creative writing group has changed many people's lives; including Di Benson's who performed this poem for us when we visited them a few months ago:
I reached the age of 50, life was boring as can be
So I started at the hub and now I'm writing poetry
I had become invisible and thought that no one cares
But now I have become alive and turned into Pam Ayres
You may wonder what is special with the hub and my old age
Well not only am I writing it, I'm now performing on a stage
It's all down to the arts council for funding this great scheme
I could never have imagined I'd be having such a scream
So a huge thank you to Janet and everyone involved
I never thought that I would end up being quite so bold
