THEATREFST 18 Returns With Three Brand New Shows.

Lisa Kreisky and Kristene Sutcliffe of Stage Door Entertainment return to Ballakermeen Studio Theatre on the 5th and 6th of October with a brand new play, a piece of never before seen devised theatre and a musical theatre revue with a difference!

Krissy and Lisa explained,

The aim of Theatrefest is to promote new work for the theatre and make it accessible to all.  This year the theme of ‘Choices’ threads through the entirety of the festival and is a very popular social topic among the Manx community.

The festival is a showcasing of new work from the Theatre and is proudly sponsored by the Isle of Man Arts Council. Now in it’s fourth year, Theatrefest ’18 brings audiences three brand new projects.

Friday Night

‘An order of Lunacy’ winner of the Theatrefest ’17 Play Writing Competition.  This will be paired with ‘Choices’, a devised theatrical piece directed by John Young.

7.30pm, 5th October

‘An Order of Lunacy’ by Paul Adam Levy

A gripping period drama which explores abuse of power, status and freedom.

Set in England in the year 1842 - three years before the Lunacy Act Reform bill, this intelligent and engaging piece follows Dr Prince, as he is called to the home of Wilfred Wright and his sisters, Carrie and Grace.  At first, it seems to be a simple case of signing off on the paperwork to have two insane women committed to a suitable asylum, fitting to their ailments.  However, it soon becomes apparent that that dealing with the Wright family and those associated with it, may not be as straightforward as he first thought.

Directed by Kristene Sutcliffe and produced by Stage Door Entertainment, the cast include Manx theatre favourites Ben Heath, Andrew Halstein, Neil Callin, Lisa Kreisky and Niamh Murdoch.  Who is mad and who is not? Sometime it’s hard to tell...

'Choices' by John Young

On a double bill with ‘An Order of Lunacy’ is the devised project, directed by Manx born Theatre Director John Young.  Over the course of just one week John will work with a community company of actors to devise and create a performance relating to the theme of CHOICE.

Johns aim is to create a contemporary piece of theatre that is as much about the process of creating the work as it is the final performance.  He is keen to work with both experienced and non experienced performers exploring exciting new roles and ideas.  The company’s challenge is that they will only have a week to create the show, but that’s the exciting part!
