Amy Bourbon

I am a Fine Artist specialising in painting and drawing. I have been awarded a PhD from Birmingham Institute of Art and Design. 
 
My doctoral research is central to my continuing painting practice through the interpretation of Spectromorphology within painting. My PhD thesis offered an interrogation of specific terms within Acousmatic Music leading to the redefinition and application of analogous notions within viewing, creation and analysis. My investigation provided a redefined understanding of painting with an emphasis on applied energy, gesture and movement, concentrating on the definition of morphology as shaping through time. My artwork involves large-scale oil paintings inspired by the places that I have encountered. I capture feelings, sights, sounds and details of the places I inhabit, retaining the memory in some way through sketches, photographs, writing, shared thoughts and object collection.  I engage with details within my environment that can be taken for granted or barely noticed. My aim is to convey the experience of being in an environment through interaction with the painting during production, enabling the viewer to glean some sense of my encounter through the finished work.
 
I also produce detailed drawings, pen and ink studies and prints.
 
I have previously completed several projects for ‘Wild in Art’, including ‘Go Wild Gorillas’ in Jersey, ‘Big Trunk Trail’ in Luton and ‘Worcester Big Parade’ in Worcester.‘ My next projects are ‘A Dog’s Trail’ in Cardiff, ‘GoGo Discover’ in Norwich and ‘The Big Hoot’ in Ipswich. The Go Wild Gorillas sculpture trail in Jersey was record breaking with the 44 gorilla sculptures raising over a million pounds for Jersey Zoo! My gorilla ‘Rotchi’ made £41,000 at auction!
