Dean Wright

My name is Dean Wright, I am 27 years old and I was born and raised on the Isle of Man.

I am currently studying for my degree in Creative Visual Practice at the University College Isle of Man.

I have a passion for Drawing, Painting & Printmaking and my art is a response to the human form, landscapes and emotions. I enjoy being able to express my emotions through my art which influences the expressive mark making techniques you will find in my works.

“Our Elements”

We all have assumptions made about us from day one and it continues with the present and future, it’s relatable and contradictory to our true characters. Whether we agree or disagree with the attributes of our star sign elements, as people we change so often in certain situations, through new adventures, through struggles and pain and much more. I’m tan who we are as people and it’s as natural as the elements themselves.

“Safe Space”

An exploration of the contrast between the Isle of Man and Dublin. I lived in the Dublin city centre for a year (2022/2023) and I was exposed to a very different atmosphere compared to growing up on the Isle of Man. I want to capture the juxtapositions between both places as a queer person, the physical safeness of the Isle of Man and the dangers in Dublin city. The diversity in Dublin compared to the lack of a queer inclusion on the Isle of Man. I am eager to delve deep into these topics and get some large scale outcomes for my last project on the first year of my degree.
