Victoria Beata

Victoria Beata is a fine artist, illustrator and author based on the Isle of Man. She has worked as a professional creative for almost forty years. She trained in fine art at Liverpool John Moores University, graduating with a BA Hons in 1996 after a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at University College Isle of Man. She was a prize winner in the Singer & Friedlander/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition on the Isle of Man.

Her early work was heavily drawn and mixed media, based on everyday scenes and human interaction. It was shown at the Sayle Gallery in Douglas and The Courtyard Gallery at Tynwald Mills, and paintings from this period are now in several private collections on the island.

She later built a career in illustration, including greeting card designs stocked in the Tate London gift store and sold through major UK high street retailers. She wrote and illustrated an unpublished series called Catty and Moomoo, about two animal friends and their small adventures in the city. It was an early version of the character-based storytelling she still does today. That drawing and storytelling work has continued through Tales of the Glen, an illustrated series based on Manx folklore and the Isle of Man culture and landscape. Two books have been published so far, with more in preparation, and it has a readership of over 100,000 across 14 countries. She is now developing Tales of the Glen for film and animation and is a member of Stage 32, the international film and television network. She is also a partner of UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man.
